Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) grants you the permanent right to live, work and study in the UK without any time limit. It is also an important stepping stone towards British citizenship.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Generally 5 years of continuous lawful residence in the UK (some routes allow 3 years)
  • No more than 180 days outside the UK in any 12-month period within the qualifying period
  • Maintained lawful status throughout the qualifying period
  • Pass the Life in the UK test
  • English language proficiency at B1 level or above
  • No outstanding financial penalties or criminal matters
